CLEC8A is expressed by endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, platelets, fibroblasts, macrophages, and is upregulated by inflammatory and oxidative stimuli. LOX-1 recognizes numerous ligands including lipoproteins, apoptotic cells heat shock proteins, C-reactive protein and oxidized LDL.
