This allows other molecules, like granzymes, to enter the target cell and induce apoptosis , effectively killing the harmful cell.  A mouse perforin molecule consists of three domains: a Membrane Attack Complex\/Perforin (MACPF) domain at the N-terminus, a C2 domain which required Ca2+ ions responsible for membrane docking, and an Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)-like domain; these domains are crucial for its pore-forming function on target cell membranes.
