The encoded protein is one of six subunits of prefoldin, a molecular chaperone complex that binds and stabilizes newly synthesized polypeptides, thereby allowing them to fold correctly. Previous reports have shown that PFDN4 is upregulated in breast cancer cell lines and tumor tissues (PMID: 11381030; PMID: 9630229).
