It is widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), and can be found in neurons, astrocytes as well as oligodendrocytes. AMIGO1 acts as a homophilic adhesion molecule that induces outgrowth and fasciculation of neurites in central neurons (PMID: 12629050).
