Preferentially uses myristate, laurate, arachidonate and eicosapentaenoate as substrates. Has mainly an anabolic role in energy metabolism. Required for the incorporation of fatty acids into phosphatidylcholine, the major phospholipid located on the surface of VLDL (very low density lipoproteins).
