It has been implicated in several neurodegenerative disorders, particularly progressive myoclonic epilepsy (PME) and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL). The deficiency of KCTD7 results in the accumulation of lipofuscin and lipid droplets, which are hallmarks of NCL (PMID: 33970744).
