The rigid styrene/DVB-based strong cation exchange resin in Shodex SUGAR series columns have been designed exclusively for the separation and analysis of sugars. Chromatographers working in food, biochemical, and natural products choose this lab equipment for its high-performance capability. Shodex SP-0810 Columns are high-performance polymeric columns based on size-exclusion chromatography, along with partition chromatography and interaction (ie, ligand exchange between counter ions), combined with basic mode to enable subtle separation like that of monosaccharides. In the analysis of neutral sugars, only water is required. Each package contains one column with an inner diameter of 8 mm and a length of 300 mm, with a 7 µm particle size. How Should Shodex SP-0810 Columns Be Heated? Because sugars are typically slow in dispersion, a higher degree of resolution can be obtained by heating the column to the highest temperature permitted by the mobile phase. If the column is not heated to 50 degrees C when in use, the anomers in sugar will separate from each other. For this reason, it is important to pay close attention to column temperature.
Guard columns of type SP-0810 also need to be heated to prevent separation of anomers and/or preparation of broadening. If heating is not possible, SUGAR KS-G is recommended.
