A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for KLK13 has been pre-coated onto 96-well plates. Standards and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for KLK13 is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate TMB is used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB is catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the Human KLK13 amount of sample captured in plate.
Kallikrein-13 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the KLK13 gene. It belongs to the kallikrein subgroup of serine proteases, which have diverse physiologic functions in many tissues. By genomic sequence analysis, KLK13 gene is mapped in a 300-kb region on chromosome 19q13.3-q13.4. It has been shown that recombinant hK13 produced in yeast can cleave synthetic peptides after the arginine residue and some extracellular matrix components. However, its exact physiological substrates and functions remain obscure. Despite the lack of knowledge on the physiological function of hK13, several studies have demonstrated that hK13 is implicated with cancer of the breast and ovary and it can serve as a favorable prognostic biomarker for these malignancies.

Properties and Storage Information:
Shipped at conditions-Blue Ice, Appropriate short-term storage conditions--20°C, Appropriate long-term storage conditions--20°C, Storage information--20°C

Supplementary Information:
This supplementary information is collated from multiple sources and compiled automatically.
Kallikrein-related peptidase 13 often called KLK13 is a member of the kallikrein family of secreted serine proteases. The protein has a mass of about 30 kDa. KLK13 is known for its enzymatic activities that can cleave peptide bonds in proteins or peptides. It is mainly expressed in tissues such as the skin prostate and salivary glands. Through enzymatic cleavage KLK13 regulates various physiological processes by modulating the activity or availability of target substrates.
Biological function summary
KLK13 functions beyond simple proteolysis and plays a significant role in tissue remodeling and homeostasis. It participates in the regulation of other proteins via signal pathways or proteolytic cascades. KLK13 is not known to be a part of any specific protein complex but indirectly affects several cellular processes through its action on substrate proteins. It can influence processes like wound healing and inflammation.
Pathways
KLK13 contributes to proteolytic pathways relevant to skin desquamation and cancer progression. It interacts with components of the kallikrein-kinin system and is involved in the regulation of kinins which are mediator proteins. Kinins play roles in inflammation and vascular functions. KLK13 also shows interaction with other kallikrein family members suggesting cooperative or redundant roles in physiological and pathological processes.
KLK13 has associations with conditions such as prostate cancer and skin disorders. In prostate cancer dysregulation of KLK13 may facilitate tumor progression or metastasis. This involvement often links KLK13 to other kallikrein-related peptidases like KLK2 which also participate in cancer biology. In skin disorders aberrant KLK13 activity can disrupt normal skin barrier functions potentially leading to conditions like psoriasis or atopic dermatitis.
