Lamins are crucial for maintaining the nuclear structure. They are also important for regulating nuclear functions and activities, including DNA replication and transcription, nuclear and chromatin organization, cell cycle regulation, cell development and differentiation, nuclear migration, and apoptosis. In the brain, lamin B1 levels modulate brain development. Loss of lamin B1 in mouse adversely impairs embryonic brain development and corticogenesis.
