When translationally dormant, PUM2, CPEB (CPE-binding protein) and Maskin form a complex on maternal cyclin B1 mRNA, precluding the formation of the active translation initiation complex [PMID:15687499]. PUM2 has been found to play a role in the mammalian nervous system, in particular in regulating morphology, arborization and excitability of neuronal dendrites [PMID:22016787].
