SAMD9 is a ubiquitously expressed cytoplasmic protein encoded by two juxtaposed single-exon genes on chromosome 7q21(PMID: 34675305). Overexpression of SAMD9 protein in tissue culture results in reduction of cell proliferation rate and invasion index, and increasing activity of caspase 3(PMID: 25450373). An important paralog of this gene is SAMD9L.
