It is also involved in the biogenesis of cilia (PMID: 18772192). Chromosomal aberrations involving PCM1 gene are associated with papillary thyroid carcinomas and a variety of hematological malignancies, including atypical chronic myeloid leukemia and T-cell lymphoma.
