Whatman Standard 14 glass fiber membranes, 24 mm × 50 m, 1 roll Standard 14 and Standard 17 glass fiber membranes are highly sensitive and naturally hydrophilic for use as a sample pad or conjugate release pad in a lateral flow assay. Standard 14 has a 355 µm thickness at 53 kPA and Standard 17 has a 370 µm thickness at 53 kPA.

The membranes are naturally hydrophilic which provides rapid rewetting after prolonged storage and are compatible with most housing styles. Conjugate Release Standard 14 and 17 can be used for conjugate release in a lateral-flow assay. Conjugate release pads are critical to lateral-flow assays. To ensure consistent performance, the conjugate must dry without damage or aggregation and release rapidly when the sample comes into contact with it. Whatman conjugate release pads do not require treatment prior to conjugate application, as they are inherently hydrophilic. The open structure of the material allows rapid penetration by both conjugate and sample.
