It has a molecular mass of approximately 90 kDa. This protein operates as a zinc-dependent metalloprotease and cleaves specific mitogen-activated protein kinase kinases (MAPKKs). The Lethal Factor along with Protective Antigen and Edema Factor form the tripartite Anthrax Toxin complex. While the Protective Antigen enables entry into host cells the Lethal Factor executes the proteolytic function.
