Background Myelin and lymphocyte protein (MAL) is a 17 kDa protein resident of glycosphingolipid and cholesterol-enriched microdomains (1). In the nervous system, it is crucial for myelin formation, maintenance, and function, particularly in oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells (3). In lymphocytes, MAL is involved in signal transduction and the formation of immunological synapses.
