The integrin family contains at least 18 α and 8 β subunits that form 24 known integrins with distinct tissue distribution and overlapping ligand specificities (3). Integrins not only transmit signals to cells in response to the extracellular environment (outside-in signaling) but also sense intracellular cues to alter their interaction with the extracellular environment (inside-out signaling) (1,2). Integrin β7 associates with integrin α4 and CD103 (ITGAE), forming the receptor complexes α4β7 and αEβ7 respectively. The α4β7 integrin receptor complex is expressed in CD4 T cells, B cells, NK cells, eosinophils, basophils, macrophages, mast cells, and endothelial cells (4). αEβ7 integrin is expressed on mucosal T lymphocytes, binds to E-cadherin expressed on the gut epithelium, and promotes lymphocyte retention (5). The known α4β7 integrin receptor ligands are fibronectin, mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1), and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) (6). Integrin β7 plays important roles in recruiting immune cells to the gastrointestinal tract and in the development of Peyer's patches in the intestinal mucosa (7). The α4β7 integrin receptor complex plays a role in differentiation, survival, adhesion, and eosinophil and lymphocyte rolling (8). The dysfunction of integrin β7 and its receptor complexes is associated with inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and integrins are emerging therapeutic targets for the treatment of IBD (9). Integrin β7 is also a therapeutic target for multiple myeloma (MM) and plays key roles in MM-cell migration, adhesion, and bone marrow homing (10). Â
Alternate Names
Gut homing receptor beta subunit; integrin beta 7 subunit; Integrin beta-7; integrin subunit beta 7; integrin, beta 7; ITB7; ITGB7

Specification

REACTIVITY: H
SENSITIVITY: Endogenous
MW (kDa): 95
Source/Isotype: Rabbit IgG
