It is an acyl-CoA synthetase and has higher enzymatic activity toward saturated and monounsaturated very long-chain fatty acids (1,2). Studies show that FATP4\/SLC27A4 promotes fatty acid uptake by endothelial cells through its acyl-CoA synthetase activity. This enzymatic activity requires ATP produced in mitochondria that are positioned closely to the ER (3).
