Ribophagy is a selective form of autophagy targeting ribosomes (reviewed in 3). Lysosomal levels of NUFIP1 were increased upon inhibition of autophagy. Ribophagy was dependent on the ability of ribosome-associated NUFIP1 to interact with LC3B via a conserved LC3-interacting region (LIR) domain and recruit ribosomes to the autophagosome (2).
