Granzyme B triggers apoptosis when released by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (1-4). SERPINB9 may function to protect effector and bystander cells from Granzyme B during an immune response (4). In mice, SPI6 is thought to be the functional homolog of SERPINB9 due to its inhibition of murine Granzyme B (2,5).
