This binding occurs mainly in the early endosome and allows for trafficking of the bound protein to either a degradative or recycling pathway (1). The sorting nexin family member SNX5 was identified in binding studies with Fanconi anemia complementation group A (FANCA) protein (2). In addition to the PX domain, STX5 has a Bin/Amphiphysin/Rvs (BAR) domain that can sense membrane curvature and induce membrane tubulation (3). Aberrant expression of SNX5 can contribute to tumorigenesis, invasion, and metastasis of several human cancers (4-7). Elevated expression of SNX5 has been reported in Parkinson's disease, where it may have a role in promoting ferroptosis (8). Studies have found that SNX5 has an essential role in macropinocytosis (9). In addition, SNX5 is part of a complex involved in recognizing membrane curvature on autolysosomes and regulating recycling of autophagosomal components (10). In a genome-wide siRNA, SNX5 was found to be an essential protein involved in virus-mediated autophagy and immunity (11).
Alternate Names
FLJ10931; SNX5; sorting nexin 5; Sorting nexin-5

Specification

REACTIVITY: H M R
SENSITIVITY: Endogenous
MW (kDa): 47
Source/Isotype: Rabbit IgG
