It contains an LC3 interacting region (LIR) acting as a bridge from the ER to Atg8 family members, LC3 and GABARAP, on the autophagosome. Phosphorylation of TEX264 by casein kinase 2 can enhance its interaction with Atg8 family members (3). TEX264-mediated ER-phagy has been observed in pathological conditions, including acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity and in neuroinflammation associated with Alzheimer's Disease (4,5).
