In addition, oncogene products YAP and TAZ activate transcription of the gene, which encodes the ODC enzyme, leading to more polyamine biosynthesis. Enhanced polyamine levels mediate tumor growth driven by YAP and TAZ via a polyamine-eIF5A hypusination-LSD1 axis (3). Furthermore, continual efferocytosis of apoptotic cells by macrophages is promoted by converting arginine and ornithine, both from apoptotic cells, to putrescine by arginase-1 and ODC in macrophages.
