CTSH is synthesized as an inactive proenzyme that contains a prodomain and a mature domain, whereupon prodomain removal, the enzyme becomes active (1). High expression of CTSH is found in several cancer types, including thyroid carcinoma (2). CTSH can also process specific proteins, like the cytoskeletal protein talin, to regulate cellular processes, such as the abnormal migration of prostate cancer cells (3).
