MAGUK family members contain PSD-95-Discs Large-zona occludens-1 (PDZ), Src homology 3 (SH3), and guanylate kinase (GuK) domains (1). In addition, MPP5\/PALS1 contains two L27 domains, L27C and L27N, that bind to a multi-PDZ domain protein called Pals1-associated tight junction (PATJ) (1,2). MPP5\/PALS1 is essential for cellular and tissue polarity, epithelial cell adhesion, and the formation of tight junctions (2,3). This scaffolding protein is involved in the development of ocular tissue and localizes in the Golgi of the retinal cells (3).
