DCPS can shuttle from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and also plays a role in pre-mRNA splicing by affecting the nuclear cap-binding protein CBP20 (4). Additionally, DCPS can contribute to miRNA turnover, a function that is independent of decaying activity and dependent on exonuclease XRN2 (5). mRNA cap analogs that are resistant to DCPS activity have been widely utilized in the study of mRNA decay and stability (6-8).
