ZNF217 is a member of the Kruppel-like factor (KLF) family of transcription factors, which consists of zinc finger proteins that bind to CACCC or GT box DNA elements (1). ZNF217 regulates the expression of its target genes through direct DNA binding, and through interaction with transcriptional co-repressors in the CoREST-HDAC complex (2). Although it was initially described as a transcriptional repressor, ZNF217 may also act as a transcriptional activator depending on the target gene (3). Amplification of the gene itself has been observed in a variety of tumors, where it is typically associated with poor prognosis (4-7). Overexpression of ZNF217 protein leads to increased cell proliferation and promotes tumor growth in breast and ovarian cancer (8,9). ZNF217 also interferes with apoptotic signaling and confers resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs in breast cancer (9,10).
Alternate Names
ZABC1; Zinc finger protein 217; ZN217; ZNF217

Specification

REACTIVITY: H
SENSITIVITY: Endogenous
MW (kDa): 140
Source/Isotype: Rabbit IgG
