They can be divided into two groups based on sequence similarity and on their preference for a subset of ligands. While EphA receptors bind to a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored ephrin A ligand, EphB receptors bind to ephrin B proteins that have a transmembrane and cytoplasmic domain (1,2). Research studies have shown that Eph receptors and ligands may be involved in many diseases including cancer (3). Both ephrin A and B ligands have dual functions. As RTK ligands, ephrins stimulate the kinase activity of Eph receptors and activate signaling pathways in receptor-expressing cells. The ephrin extracellular domain is sufficient for this function as long as it is clustered (4). The second function of ephrins has been described as \"reverse signaling\", whereby the cytoplasmic domain becomes tyrosine phosphorylated, allowing interactions with other proteins that may activate signaling pathways in the ligand-expressing cells (5). The EphA3 receptor preferentially binds ephrin-A5. This ligand-receptor interaction stimulates EphA3 signaling, regulates cell adhesion and migration, and induces cellular morphologic responses (6-8). EphA3 plays a critical role in callosal axon guidance (9), retinotectal mapping of neurons (10), as well as cardiac cell migration and differentiation (11). Investigators have shown that somatic mutations in functional domains of EphA3 are linked to lung cancer progression (12). In addition, EphA3 expression levels have been correlated with tumor angiogenesis and progression in gastric and colorectal carcinoma (13,14).\n\u003cb\u003eAlternate Names\u003c\/b\u003e\nBrain-specific kinase; BSK; CEK7; EHK-1; EHK1; EK4; EK7; EK8; EPH homology kinase 1; Eph homology kinase-1; EPH receptor A3; EPH receptor A4; EPH receptor A5; EPH-like kinase 4; EPH-like kinase 7; EPH-like kinase 8; eph-like tyrosine kinase 1; EPHA3; EPHA4; EPHA5; ephrin receptor EphA3; ephrin receptor EphA4; ephrin receptor EphA5; Ephrin type-A receptor 3; Ephrin type-A receptor 4; Ephrin type-A receptor 5; epididymis secretory sperm binding protein; ETK; ETK1; HEK; hEK4; HEK7; HEK8; Human embryo kinase; human embryo kinase 1; receptor protein-tyrosine kinase HEK7; receptor protein-tyrosine kinase HEK8; SEK; testicular tissue protein Li 64; TYRO1; TYRO1 protein tyrosine kinase; TYRO4; TYRO4 protein tyrosine kinase; tyrosine-protein kinase receptor EHK-1; Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor ETK1; Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor SEK; Tyrosine-protein kinase TYRO1; Tyrosine-protein kinase TYRO4\n\n\u003cb\u003eSpecification\u003c\/b\u003e\n\nREACTIVITY: H M\nSENSITIVITY: Endogenous\nMW (kDa): 135\nSource\/Isotype: Rabbit IgG","brand":"CST","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46799974367401,"sku":"8793S","price":0.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/iright.com\/products\/cst-8793s","provider":"Iright","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
