By promoting innate immune response, members of this family can limit the damage caused by viral and bacterial infections. In infection or inflammation, some of these cytokines can promote tissue healing. IL10, as a cytokine inhibitory factor (CSIF), reduces inflammation by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines.
