One antibody of interest is labeled with a donor fluorophore (a LANCE Europium chelate) and the second molecule is labeled with an acceptor fluorophore (ULight™ dye). Upon excitation at 320 or 340 nm, energy can be transferred from the donor Europium chelate to the acceptor fluorophore if sufficiently close for FRET (~10 nm). This results in the emission of light at 665 nm.\u003cbr\u003e\nHuman Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone typically detected in pregnancy tests but can also be produced by some cancerous tumors. It is heterodimeric in which the alpha subunit is shared amongst other similar glycoproteins. The beta subunit is unique to hCG. hCG interacts with the LHCG receptor in order to promote maintenance of the corpeus luteum at the beginning stages of pregnancy. hCG is produced by the syncytiotrophoblast in the placenta. The beta subunit is excreted by various cancers such as seminoma and germ cell tumors.
