Sartorius Sartobind® S 150 mL Capsule
Sartorius Sartobind® S membrane adsorber units combine the advantages of convective media and ion exchange chromatography for rapid and easy contaminant removal or capture of virus and virus-like particles.
For item No. 96IEXS42E9BFF,Iright sells it in a pre-packed single-use capsule (150 mL bed) with ¾″ sanitary tri-clamp in/out. The Sartobind S 150ml Capsule is mainly used in the removal of host-cell protein & DNA in mAb polishing, aggregate removal, and high-capacity capture or polishing of viruses/VLPs.

Key Parameters
- Membrane/Ligand: > 3 µm macroporous, stabilized cellulose membrane functionalised with sulfonic-acid groups (strong cation exchanger).
- Bed Volume & Height: 150 mL with an 8 mm bed height; approximate adsorptive surface area ≈ 5,500 cm². Can be operated at 0.75 L min⁻¹ (≈ 30 column volumes min⁻¹).
- Connection: ¾″ Tri-Clamp (25 mm) sanitary quick-fit; polypropylene housing, weight ≈ 400 g; maximum operating pressure 4 bar (0.4 MPa / 58 psi).
- pH & Chemical Stability: Short-term pH 3–14 / long-term pH 4–13; compatible with common chromatography buffers; avoid peroxides.
- Dynamic Binding Capacity (Lysozyme, 10 % BT): ≈ 25 mg mL⁻¹ → each capsule can adsorb ≈ 3.9 g of protein.
Process Advantages
- High Linear Velocity, Low ΔP: Maintains a pressure drop < 3 bar even at flow rates > 30 bed volumes min⁻¹, shrinking the chromatography step from hours to mere minutes.
- Macro-Molecule/Virus Friendly: Binding capacity for viruses and VLPs is > 10 × that of conventional resins; during antibody polishing, HCP/DNA clearance can reach up to 200 × higher.
- Single-Use Plug-and-Play: No column packing or cleaning validation required. Capsules are gamma-irradiated, ready-to-use, and fully compliant with cGMP single-use workflows.
- Low Buffer Use: An optimised void volume of just 0.2 L (≈ 1.3 MV) saves > 40 % buffer compared with non-optimised capsules.
- Re-usable: For non-viral polishing, the capsule has been validated for 3–5 cleaning cycles with 0.1 M NaOH, further reducing cost of goods (COG).

Application Examples
- mAb Flow-Through Polishing: Deployed downstream of the Protein A capture and primary CEX steps; removes residual HCP, DNA and aggregates within 2–3 column volumes at linear velocities of 10–30 BV min⁻¹.
- AAV/Adenovirus Capture & Concentration: Operated in bind–elute mode to boost viral titre and shorten pre-inactivation processing time; already implemented in commercial gene-therapy manufacturing.
- Emergency Aggregate Filtration: When a sudden aggregate spike arises post-UF/DF, the capsule can be clamped in-line as a 30-second “guard column”, preventing an entire batch from going out of specification.
- Linear Scale-Up to 5 L Jumbo: 0.08 mL Pico → 3 mL Nano → 150 mL Capsule → 5 L Jumbo formats, all sharing the same ligand chemistry and 8 mm bed height for seamless process transfer.
25 mm Sanitary-to-UNF 10-32 Adapter
The Sartorius Sanitary Adapter converts the small UNF 10-32 female outlet on mini/analytical Sartobind devices to a hygienic ½″–¾″ sanitary clamp, matching standard bioprocess tubing manifolds.
Iright sells Sanitary Adapters 1ZAOGV0003 at reasonable prices with premium quality. You can email us for detailed pricing information.
