Induces DNA damage by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting Topo II (topoisomerase II). Mitoxantrone dihydrochloride induces interstrand DNA cross-links and DNA-protein cross-links in cellular systems. Mitoxantrone dihydrochloride has recently been shown to be an inhibitor of DNA methylation.
