MCRS1 also known as MSP58 is a protein that plays a significant mechanical role in the cellular environment. The protein has a molecular mass of about 58 kDa and belongs to the class of chromosomal scaffold proteins. MCRS1 expresses ubiquitously but shows higher expression in tissues with significant proliferative activity such as the liver and cancerous tissues. The protein's role involves interactions with other proteins and nucleic acids influencing processes important for basic cell functions.
Biological function summary
MCRS1 modulates cellular responses related to growth and stress. It participates in the formation of stable multiprotein complexes such as the TIP60 complex where it contributes to chromatin remodeling. In addition MCRS1 plays a part in cell cycle regulation sustaining the balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis. Through these interactions MCRS1 supports cellular homeostasis and responds to changes in the cellular environment.
Pathways
MCRS1 holds a place in pathways like the Wnt signaling and mTOR pathways. It often interacts with other critical proteins such as MYC and LCMT1 facilitating signal transduction that affects cell growth and differentiation. In the Wnt signaling pathway MCRS1 impacts gene expression involved in developmental processes and oncogenesis and in the mTOR pathway it helps regulate cellular metabolism growth and survival.
MCRS1 displays associations with cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Overexpression of MCRS1 often links to various cancers particularly due to its role in cell proliferation and it tends to interact with oncogenes like MYC. In neurodegenerative disorders alterations in MCRS1 function can correlate with impaired cellular stress responses which might contribute to disease progression. These interactions highlight MCRS1's importance as a potential therapeutic target and a marker for disease progression.
