Specificity:This antibody is specific for human CENP-Q protein.  A BLAST analysis of the full length sequence was used to suggest partial cross-reactivity with CENP-Q based on the following percentage homologies: macaque (91%), horse (76%), bovine (74%), dog (73%), swine (71%), mouse (65%) and rat (60%). Cross-reactivity with CENP-Q from other sources has not been determined.

CENPQ also known as Centromere Protein Q is a component of the inner kinetochore plate. This protein has an approximate molecular mass of 25 kDa. CENPQ is expressed in various tissues. It localizes at the centromere during cell division. The presence of CENPQ ensures the proper attachment of microtubules to the kinetochore from spindle fibers critical for chromosome alignment and segregation.
Biological function summary
Centromere Protein Q plays a role in the maintenance of centromere structure and function. It forms part of the CENP-H/I/K complex which is involved in assembling the kinetochore. This complex stabilizes the kinetochore-microtubule interactions facilitating the accurate transmission of chromosomes during mitosis. The precise coordination of these activities helps prevent chromosomal instability which could lead to genetic disorders.

CENPQ participates in the mitotic spindle checkpoint pathway.
