Product details:
Abcam's anti-Influenza virus B IgA Human
in vitro
ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate qualitative measurement of IgA class antibodies against Influenza virus B in Human serum and plasma.
A 96-well plate has been precoated with Influenza virus B antigens to bind cognate antibodies. Controls or test samples are added to the wells and incubated. Following washing, a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) labelled anti-Human IgA conjugate is added to the wells, which binds to the immobilized Influenza virus B-specific antibodies. TMB is then catalyzed by the HRP to produce a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding an acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Influenza virus B IgA sample captured in plate.

Influenza Virus B IgA also referred to as Immunoglobulin A targets influenza B virus proteins. It is a part of the host immune response against the influenza B infection. IgA molecules typically have a molecular mass around 160 kDa. This immunoglobulin is primarily expressed in mucosal areas such as the respiratory tract where it plays an important role in neutralizing pathogens before they penetrate further into the body systems.
Biological function summary
Immunoglobulin A functions in the immune surveillance of mucosal membranes. This target belongs to the immunoglobulin complex an essential part of the adaptive immune system. It neutralizes pathogens by binding to them preventing attachment and entry into host cells. IgA specifically in the form of secretory IgA contributes to the first line of defense against respiratory infections including influenza virus.
Pathways
IgA is a critical component in the mucosal immune response pathway. It interacts with other proteins such as the polymeric immunoglobulin receptor (pIgR) which facilitates its transport across epithelial cells. Additionally it connects to the complement pathway activating the antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) working synergistically with other immunoglobulins and complement proteins to enhance pathogen clearance.
Influenza Virus B IgA plays a significant role in respiratory infections like influenza caused by the influenza B virus. In conditions where IgA deficiency occurs individuals might experience an increased susceptibility to such infections. A related protein in this context is the aforementioned pIgR which if dysfunctional can affect IgA secretion and stability leading to impaired immune response in mucosal surfaces.
