SCARA5 also known as scavenger receptor class A member 5 functions mechanically as a cell surface receptor involved in the endocytosis of iron-bound lipocalin-2. This protein has a mass of approximately 86 kDa. SCARA5 is expressed in various tissues including the placenta lung liver and prostate. It plays a role in binding and internalizing ligands leading to their transport into the cells where they are involved in further biological processes.
