PSMD11 also known as RPN-6 is a regulatory subunit of the proteasome 26S. It is approximately 50 kDa in mass and plays an essential role in the proteasome's function responsible for protein degradation within cells. PSMD11 is broadly expressed in various tissues including high expression in the brain heart and skeletal muscle. Its mechanical role involves binding to other subunits to stabilize the proteasome structure and facilitate substrate entry into the proteolytic core.
Biological function summary
PSMD11 is essential for the proper assembly and activity of the 26S proteasome complex which is important for ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. This process controls protein turnover and regulates the concentration of various proteins to maintain cellular homeostasis.
