Highly expressed in kidney, placenta and liver, it supplies essential amino acids to support fetal growth, protein synthesis and one-carbon metabolism. Over-expressed in head-and-neck, liver and other cancers, SLC43A2-driven methionine influx maintains methylation reactions and YAP activity, promoting tumor proliferation and chemo-resistance . Pharmacological inhibition of SLC43A2 sensitizes tumors to therapy, highlighting its potential as a metabolic target.
