The Fanconi anemia (FA) protein is composed of 15 FA complementary groups of multifunctional proteins. As a molecular adaptor in the FA core complex, FANCF is primarily involved in the monoubiquitination of the downstream protein (FANCD2) in the FA/breast cancer susceptibility gene repair pathway. Studies have shown that downregulation of FANCF expression can inhibit proliferation, migration, and invasion of breast cancer cells, suggesting that FANCF silencing may be critical in early carcinogenesis (PMID: 32915143).
