SPANX also referred to as Sperm Protein Associated with the Nucleus on the X chromosome is a protein involved in cellular mechanisms. This protein has an approximate mass of 12-14 kDa. Expression of SPANX occurs mainly in the testis and it localizes primarily to nuclear compartments in mature spermatozoa. The SPANX family of proteins includes several paralogs each with specific but similar roles within the reproductive system.
