Rootletin also known as C-Nap1-interacting protein or CEP68 is a large coiled-coil protein with a mass around 230 kDa. It is primarily expressed in centrosomes a major microtubule-organizing center in cells. Rootletin forms the structural rootlet in ciliated cells supporting the cilia as microtubules extend outward. It serves a structural role in maintaining centriole cohesion a necessary process for centrosome stability and proper cellular division.
