WEE2 also known as WEE kinase homolog 2 or oocyte-specific serine/threonine-protein kinase is a protein expressed mainly in oocytes. It has a mass of approximately 58 kDa. WEE2 functions as a cell cycle regulator that has a significant role in controlling the progression of cells through mitosis. The protein achieves this by phosphorylating and inactivating cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) specifically CDK1 which is necessary for cell cycle progression.
