The GPR155 protein also known as G protein-coupled receptor 155 is an orphan receptor with a molecular mass of approximately 97 kDa. This protein belongs to the GPCR family which typically transmits signals from outside the cell to inside. GPR155 has been found expressed mainly in the brain indicating its potential role in neural function. Researchers have investigated its expression in various tissues but higher levels are often observed within neuronal cells.
Biological function summary
GPR155 influences signaling processes that are significant for neuronal development and function. Although not extensively characterized it is thought to be part of receptor complexes that regulate intracellular signaling cascades. Its specific role in these complexes remains to be fully understood yet it's suggested to act in coordination with other proteins involved in brain physiology.
Pathways
GPR155 participates in essential neural signaling pathways that are important for maintaining neuronal health. It is believed to interact with components of the Wnt signaling pathway known for regulating cellular processes involved in brain development. Additionally GPR155 shares pathway involvement with proteins such as PGR22 which suggests a broader regulatory role in signaling networks important for brain function.
GPR155 has connections to neurological conditions like autism spectrum disorders. Abnormal expression levels of GPR155 have been observed in patients with such conditions suggesting its potential role in disease mechanisms. It interacts with other proteins implicated in these disorders such as PGR22 highlighting a network of interactions that may contribute to pathophysiology. Further research is necessary to fully elucidate these connections and their clinical implications.
