Product details:
Abcam's Thromboxane B
in vitro
competitive ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the accurate quantitative measurement of Thromboxane B
in biological fluids.
A goat anti-rabbit IgG antibody has been precoated onto 96-well plates. Standards or test samples are added to the wells, along with an alkaline phosphatase (AP) conjugated-TXB
antigen and a rabbit polyclonal antibody specific to TXB
. After incubation the excess reagents are washed away and pNpp substrate is added. After a short incubation the enzyme reaction is stopped and a yellow color is generated. The intensity of the yellow coloration is inversely proportional to the amount of TXB
captured in the plate.
Thromboxane A
) is involved in platelet aggregation, vasoconstriction and reproductive functions, but has a half life of only 37 seconds under physiological conditions. Thromboxane B
) is the stable product of the non-enzymatic hydration of TXA
, thus the production of TXA
in vivo is typically monitored by measurement of TXB
and its metabolite 2,3-dinor TXB
. 11-dehydro-TXB
is a major metabolite of Thromboxane B
) found in urine and plasma produced by its dehydrogenation by the enzyme 11-OH-dehydrogenase.

TXB2 also known as Thromboxane B2 is a stable metabolite of Thromboxane A2. It has a molecular mass of about 368.45 g/mol. TXB2 acts mechanically as a product of arachidonic acid metabolism and is synthesized through the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway. It is not active itself but serves as a reliable marker for the production of Thromboxane A2. This target is expressed in various tissues especially those involved in inflammation and hemostasis.
Biological function summary
Thromboxane B2 plays a role in platelet aggregation and vasoconstriction. It is part of the Thromboxane complex which includes other prostaglandins and their metabolites. The biological actions of TXB2 demonstrate its involvement in the modulation of blood flow and blood clot formation. As a non-active but stable marker TXB2 offers insights into the activity and levels of its more unstable precursor impacting processes related to vascular tone.
Pathways
TXB2 is part of the arachidonic acid pathway and is linked to the regulation of hemostasis. This pathway interacts with prostacyclin forming a balance between constriction and dilation of blood vessels. TXB2 emerges from the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme’s activity closely connected with other pathway members like prostaglandins and leukotrienes. It provides a measurement for understanding Thromboxane A2’s effects and the body's response to injury or inflammation.
TXB2 relates to cardiovascular conditions including myocardial infarction and stroke. Its involvement in platelet aggregation can contribute to the development of these conditions. TXB2 levels can serve as an indicator of imbalance in hemostatic functions. The target's connection with proteins such as COX-1 and COX-2 underlies its role in pathological processes involving thrombotic diseases. Monitoring TXB2 can help evaluate disease risk and response to anti-inflammatory or anticoagulant therapies.
