TSHZ1 also known as Teashirt Zinc Finger Homeobox 1 is a transcription factor characterized by several zinc finger motifs. It has a molecular mass of approximately 123 kDa. This protein is expressed in a variety of tissues including the central nervous system skeletal muscle and lung. As a transcription factor TSHZ1 plays an important role in regulating gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences.
Biological function summary
TSHZ1 participates in developmental processes particularly in the formation of the respiratory system and spinal cord. It acts as part of a complex with other transcription factors and co-factors to modulate gene expression. The protein regulates key developmental genes influencing cell differentiation and organogenesis.
Pathways
Research identifies TSHZ1 as an important component of the Notch signaling pathway where it interacts with proteins like CBF1 a major mediator of Notch signaling. TSHZ1 also contributes to the Wnt signaling pathway involved in cell fate determination embryonic development and tumorigenesis. The interplay of TSHZ1 with these pathways suggests its significant role in cellular development and differentiation.
Research links TSHZ1 to congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS). Abnormal TSHZ1 expression affects neuronal development contributing to CCHS pathogenesis. Additionally TSHZ1 ties to certain forms of deafness due to its role in the development of the inner ear. Its interactions with proteins such as PHOX2B another factor implicated in CCHS highlight its relevance in disease mechanisms.
