Frizzled 5 also known as FZD5 is a receptor that functions mechanically as a part of the Wnt signaling pathway. The Frizzled 5 protein has a molecular weight of around 75 kDa and is expressed in various tissues including the brain the eyes and the cardiovascular system. As a transmembrane receptor Frizzled 5 binds to Wnt ligands and activates intracellular signaling cascades mediating important cellular processes.

Frizzled 5 participates in cellular communication and is part of the Wnt-frizzled protein complex. This complex plays a role in embryonic development cell proliferation and cell differentiation. Through its interaction with Wnt ligands Frizzled 5 can influence cell fate determination and contribute to the maintenance of stem cells. Knowledge of Frizzled 5 places it within both the canonical and non-canonical Wnt signaling pathways.
