PILRA also known as Paired immunoglobulin-like type 2 receptor alpha is a protein with a mass of about 38 kDa. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and acts as an inhibitory receptor. PILRA is expressed mainly in human tissues such as monocytes macrophages and certain subsets of dendritic cells. It interacts with ligands through its extracellular domain and transmits inhibitory signals via its cytoplasmic tail that contains immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs).
