Striatin 4 also known as SG2NA or STRN4 is a scaffold protein with a molecular mass of approximately 100 kDa. It is part of the striatin family and plays an important role in the organization of multiprotein complexes. The protein is expressed in several tissues including the brain where it influences signaling pathways. Striatin 4 interacts with calmodulin and phosphatases facilitating communication and modification of signaling proteins.
Biological function summary
Striatin 4 facilitates interactions within the striatin family interactosome and contributes to the modulation of calcium signaling through its role in calcium/calmodulin-dependent processes. As a regulatory component it is essential within protein complexes that have wide implications in cellular signaling. The protein supports roles in cell growth apoptosis and vascular function due to its ability to bring together various signaling proteins and enzymes impacting cellular behavior.
Pathways
Researchers have identified Striatin 4 as a participant in important pathways that include the protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) pathway and the calcium signaling pathway. Its interactions with PP2A-related proteins suggest it may serve to regulate protein dephosphorylation events thereby affecting many downstream signaling cascades. Through its participation in calcium signaling Striatin 4 works in conjunction with calcium-binding proteins influencing various physiological processes such as muscle contraction and neurotransmitter release.
Studies have linked Striatin 4 to conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and cardiovascular disorders where its role in signaling pathways may contribute to pathological changes. Its association with proteins like tau in Alzheimer's reflects its potential influence on neurodegenerative processes. Additionally the interaction of Striatin 4 with vascular-related proteins could implicate it in the progression of cardiovascular conditions making it a target of interest for disease understanding and therapeutic development.
