The Human SCGB1A1 Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) kit (uteroglobin) (ab213823) is designed for the quantitative measurement of Human SCGB1A1 in cell culture supernatants, serum, plasma (heparin, EDTA), saliva, urine and human milk.
The ELISA kit is based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technology. A monoclonal antibody from mouse specific for SCGB1A1/uteroglobin has been pre-coated onto 96-well plates. Standards (Expression system for standard:

; Immunogen sequence: E22-N91) and test samples are added to the wells, a biotinylated detection polyclonal antibody from goat specific for SCGB1A1/uteroglobin is added subsequently and then followed by washing with PBS or TBS buffer. Avidin-Biotin-Peroxidase Complex is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with PBS or TBS buffer. HRP substrate TMB is used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB is catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the Human SCGB1A1/uteroglobin amount of sample captured in plate.
SCGB1A1 (secretoglobin family 1A member 1) also known as Uteroglobin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SCGB1A1 gene. SCGB1A1 is the founding member of the secretoglobin family of small, secreted, disulfide-bridged dimeric proteins found only in mammals. This protein is specifically expressed in Clara cells in the lungs. Numerous studies demonstrated that UG is a multifunctional protein with anti-inflammatory/ immunomodulatory properties. It inhibits soluble phospholipase A(2) activity and binds and perhaps sequesters hydrophobic ligands such as progesterone, retinols, polychlorinated biphenyls, phospholipids, and prostaglandins. In addition to its anti-inflammatory activities, UG manifests anti-chemotactic, anti-allergic, anti-tumorigenic, and embryonic growth stimulatory activities.

Uteroglobin also known as Clara cell secretory protein (CC16) is a small secreted protein with a molecular mass of approximately 16 kDa. Expressed chiefly in the respiratory epithelium of the lungs particularly by Clara cells it is also present in other tissues such as the kidney and uterus. Uteroglobin acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory protein playing an important role in protecting epithelial cells from damage by various harmful agents.
Biological function summary
Uteroglobin serves as a multifunctional secretory agent contributing to the regulation of inflammation and tissue remodeling. It does not form part of a larger complex but acts independently. By binding and inhibiting pro-inflammatory mediators like phospholipase A2 Uteroglobin reduces the production of arachidonic acid derivatives which are involved in inflammatory processes. Additionally it acts as a chemoattractant for certain immune cells further modulating immune responses.

Uteroglobin integrates into the immune response and inflammation pathways.
