ADPRHL1 also known as ADP-ribosylhydrolase like protein 1 is an enzyme involved in the hydrolysis of ADP-ribose protein modifications. This protein belongs to the ADP-ribosylhydrolase family and is thought to weigh around 34 kDa. ADPRHL1 expression is notable in cardiac tissues and to some extent in skeletal muscles indicating a role in muscle function. The expression pattern points toward a specific function related to muscle physiology.
Biological function summary
ADPRHL1 plays an essential role in regulating ADP-ribosylation a reversible post-translational modification that influences several cellular processes including stress responses and DNA repair. It acts by removing ADP-ribose groups from arginine or cysteine residues in target proteins playing a regulatory role in cellular homeostasis and signaling processes. While ADPRHL1 does not appear to be part of a large multi-protein complex its functions are vital for maintaining normal proteomic balance in cells especially in tissues with high metabolic demands like the heart.
Pathways
Several cellular processes involve ADPRHL1 due to its role in ADP-ribosylation. This protein takes part in DNA repair pathways and some elements of cellular stress response. It interrelates with enzymes such as PARP1 in the poly-ADP-ribosylation pathway contributing to controlling cellular stress and maintaining genomic integrity. By managing these pathways ADPRHL1 collaborations maintain homeostasis and protect against cellular damage.
Researchers have linked ADPRHL1 to cardiac hypertrophy and certain muscular dystrophies pointing to its critical importance in heart and muscle health. The protein's malfunction or irregular expression might connect to pathologies involving these conditions. Some studies suggest interactions with titin a protein contributing to muscle assembly and cardiac stability hinting at the impact ADPRHL1 may have on muscle-related diseases. These connections make ADPRHL1 a potential target for therapeutic interventions in muscle and heart disease research.
