NRSN1/VMP also known as Neurensin-1 is a transmembrane protein with a molecular mass around 17 kDa. The protein predominantly expresses in neuronal tissues including the central and peripheral nervous systems. NRSN1 localizes to the membrane of small round vesicles where it appears to partake in vesicle trafficking due to its transmembrane nature.
Biological function summary
Neurensin-1 impacts neuronal development and function. It may be involved in synaptic plasticity and axonal transport although the exact biological functions are not fully extracted. Some studies suggest Neurensin-1 participates as part of a larger protein complex located in the neuronal growth cone thereby influencing cellular dynamics in neurons.
